LEFTHANDED BASEBALL

The Best Lefthanded Batters and Lefthanded Pitchers in Baseball

Congratulations to John Means, who joined the exclusive "No-Hit" Club on May 5th.

With four official no-hitters through the first week of May, Major League Baseball is on a record pace. Three of those four no-hitters have been thrown by lefthanded pitchers, including the last three in a row on April 14th, May 5th and May 7th, all within twenty three days of each other.

Lefthanded Baseball will soon write about all of the lefthanded pitchers who have thrown no-hitters in the modern era.  Many of the all-time greatest lefthanded pitchers in baseball have thrown no-hitters, and some of the most obscure lefthanded pitchers have alson thrown no-hitters.  Please check back for updates.

Baltimore Orioles Lefthander John Means threw a no-hitter Wednesday night in a 6-0 victory over the Mariners.   The Mariners only baserunner reached base on a dropped third strike.  It was the 308th no hitter in MLB history, (10th by the Orioles franchise).  It was also the 3rd no-hitter official nine inning no-hitter of the 2021 season.

Congratulations to Wade Miley, who joined the exclusive "No-Hit" Club on May 7th.

Congratulations to Madison Bumgarner who did not pitch a no-hitter on April 24th
He pitched a seven inning, complete game shutout, with zero hits allowed.

According to MLB rules, Bumgarner's game does not qualify as an official no-hitter because he did not pitch nine innings.  The Diamondbacks have argued that Bumgarner should get credit for a no-hitter, maybe with an asterisk designating a seven inning game.  Either way, it was still a great performance by a veteran lefthander who is trying to re-establish himself as one of the best lefthanded pitchers in the game after a couple of years below his previous performance.

Congratulations to Carlos Rodon,  who joined the exclusive "No-Hit" Club on April 14th.

No-Hitters at a Record Pace

Congratulations should also go to Padres righthander Joe Musgrove,
who threw the first no-hitter of the 2021 MLB season on April 9th

Chicago Lefthander Carlos Rodon threw a no-hitter in the White Sox 8-0 win over the Indians on Wednesday night, coming within two outs of a perfect game before "settling" for the no-hitter.  It was the 307th no-hitter in MLB history, and the 20th by the Chicago White Sox.

Cincinnati Reds Lefthander Wade Miley threw a no-hitter on Friday night in a 3-0 victory over the Indians.  It was the 308th no hitter in MLB history (17th by the Reds franchise).  It was the 4th official nine inning no-hitter of the 2021 season, (three in a row thrown by lefthanders) and it comes just two days after the last one by John Means.
