Ted Williams, Stan Musial and Mel Ott were a step above the rest in their era,

but there were many other lefthanded batters among the best of their time.

Paul Waner was a lefthanded throwing outfielder who played 20 years in the majors (from 1926 to 1945) mostly with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He won National League batting titles in 1927, 1934 & 1936. He finished with 3152 hits (17th all-time) and a .333 average (26th all-time). He was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1952.

Mickey Cochrane was a righthanded throwing catcher who played 13 years in the majors (from 1925 to 1937), 9 years with the Philadelphia Athletics and 4 with the Detroit Tigers. He finished with a .320 batting average (the highest ever by a catcher). He was American League MVP in 1928 and 1934, and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1947.

Bill Dickey was a righthanded throwing catcher who played 17 years in the majors (from 1928 to 1946) with the New York Yankees. He finished with 202 home runs, 1209 runs batted in, and a .313 batting average. He had four straight seasons (1936-1939) with over 20 home runs, 100 runs batted in and a .300 batting average. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1954.

Johnny Mize is a righthanded throwing first-baseman who played 15 years in the majors (from 1936 to 1953) with three different teams. He finished wiht 367 doubles, 359 home runs, 1337 runs batted in and a .312 batting average. Mize missed three years in the prime of his career to military service, or his career numbers would have been much higher. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1981.

Yogi Berra was a righthanded throwing catcher and outfielder who played 19 years (from 1946 to 1963), most of them with the New York Yankees. He finished his career with 358 home runs, 1430 runs batted in, and a .285 batting average. He hit over 20 home runs 11 times, and drove in over 100 runs 5 times. Berra was the American League MVP in 1951, 1954 and 1955. He was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972.

Duke Snider was a righthanded throwing outfielder who played 18 years (from 1947 to 1964), mostly with the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers). He finished his career with 407 home runs, 1333 runs batted in, and a .295 batting average. He played in eight all-star games, was 1955 Major League Player of the Year, and was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1980.

Eddie Mathews was a righthanded throwing third-baseman who played 17 years (from 1952 to 1968), mostly with the Milwaukee Braves. Mathews finished his career with 512 home runs (23rd all time). He was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1978.
